Thank you for this and writing on this podcast so audicaiously. I got caught up in the grift for about 10 months. I was an unpaid community manager within the Discord community for the poscast and a cult that advertised on the tapes.
This highlights a problem with indie productions that don’t have strict editorial rules—a company that might be sued or suffer reputational damage would have handled this topic differently.
Yes very true. There are many parts of this series (and likely the doc too, but that hasn’t come out yet) that would never get past legal of a corporate entity. It’s fair to say that it doesn’t pass the basic journalism credo of being triple fact checked…it’s an opinion piece that masquerades as scientific fact. I might enjoy it as an opinion piece - it’s very compelling for sure, which is why it’s at the top of the charts. But instead it works to persuade me that all my assumptions and underlying beliefs are wrong.
I love reading about your perspective and course correction. So few of us even have insight into our errors of judgement, let alone the fortitude to reverse and state otherwise.
